Gladys Krigger

Mrs. Gladys K. Washington, age 70, passed away in Florida on November 18, 2024.

 A native of Ocala, Florida, she dedicated much of her life to philanthropy and social justice. 

Mrs. Washington's professional career was marked by her significant contributions to racial equity, civic engagement, and capacity building. As Deputy Director of the Mary Reynolds Babcock Foundation, she oversaw programs across 11 southeastern states and worked tirelessly to promote positive change. 

Throughout her career, she served on multiple boards, including the Association of Black Foundation Executives, the Women's Foundation of the South, and the St. Croix Foundation. 

A respected leader in the field, Mrs. Washington received numerous prestigious awards for her work in philanthropy and service. In 2019, she was honored with the Berea College Service Award, recognizing her commitment to interracial education, learning, and service. In 2015, she received the highest distinction from the Association of Black Foundation Executives, being named the James A. Joseph Lecturer

Her legacy is defined by her unwavering dedication to uplifting communities and fostering positive change through her work in philanthropy. She will truly be missed by all who knew and loved her.

(Michaela) Washington of Blair, NE; Daughters: Sheila Deloach of Ladson, S.C. and Claudia (Kenneth) Manigault of Charleston, S.C.; Sisters: Contance Krieger of Woodbridge VA and Letecia (Stanley) Edwards of Orlando, FL; Grandchildren: Brandon Driskell, Madison Roper, Miles Brown, Trey Porcher, Aiden Krigger, Riley Weatherley, Jayna Washington, Ally Washington, Jacob Washington, Amara Washington, Mylah Washington, and Royah Washington; Great-Grandchildren: Brittany Driskell, BJ Driskell, and Zola Roper, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
